The Secret Family:Twenty-Four Hours Inside the Mysterious World of Our Minds and Bodies

The Secret Family Cover
This book, The Secret Family:Twenty-Four Hours Inside the Mysterious World of Our Minds and Bodies by David Bodanis is about all the different types of bacteria and germs that live in our world.

The book first starts in the morning when the family wake up. From this moment the family begins to breathe in germs from all over. Their immune systems, however, are at work all night defending the body from invaders that may enter through the nose, mouth or eyes. Things such a pillow mites may cause the body harm during the night.

This book was written to show all of the dangerous and infectious bacteria that can enter our bodies from the places we least expect it to. Some things may seem dirty but they are actually cleaner than most things. Which do you think has more germs a coin or a sneeze? Click here to find out. This book tells us some comparisons like this such as males versus females. It even goes further to tell us how  body stops these invaders and protects itself from being sick.

This book was very interesting while informative. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about the immune system and how the body works. David Bodanis did a good job educating us about all of the hard work the body does to protect us and he kept it interesting by using a normal family and normal activities that any one of us could encounter.

  3. Wow! This book sounds so interesting! I love how throughout the book you can continue to relate to the knowledge the author fills your head with. Knowing these facts can really change the course of our daily lives. I didn't really know anything about the immune system either, Julia. And I also thought the coin would win, Gabby. Great work!!
